Superior North Volleyball Club’s 15U and 16U Girls Competitive teams had an incredible showing at the MN North Freeze Tournament in Duluth, MN, on January 19th. Both teams demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and a passion for the game, making it a memorable event for athletes, coaches, and supporters alike.
15U Girls Battle to Victory
The 15U Girls shined throughout the tournament, fighting their way to the Silver Division finals and bringing home gold. One of the standout moments came in the semifinals, where the team overcame a set deficit and a four-point lag in the second set to claim victory. Their ability to bounce back after a tough second match loss against the eventual Gold Division winners showcased their determination.
Outside hitter and middle blocker Ava Peterson summed up the experience, saying, “Our first tournament was about so much more than just playing the game – it was about coming together as a true team, both on and off the court. From cheering each other on to pushing through tough moments, we built incredible bonds and friendships that made the experience unforgettable.” Coach Peter Juan echoed the sentiment, praising the team’s exceptional teamwork and perseverance, and thanking the families who came out to cheer them on.
16U Girls Build Strong Foundations
For the 16U Girls, this tournament marked the start of their competitive season, and they made the most of every match. Led by team captains Jadyn Wakefield and Serena Warren, the team displayed great spirit, perseverance, and constant learning. There were plenty of exciting plays, positive moments, and team bonding experiences, including a memorable team dinner on Saturday night that strengthened their connection off the court.
Wakefield reflected on the tournament, saying, “This was a great way to start the season. It was an opportunity for our team to learn and grow together. Everyone had great serves, passes, and hits, and we should all be proud of ourselves.” Warren added, “This weekend, our team showed that improvement, positivity, and teamwork are the keys to thriving as a team.”
Coaches Julia Curtis, Emma Lafreniere, and Lily Lingner were thrilled with the team’s performance, emphasizing the heart and teamwork displayed throughout the tournament. “We played with so much effort, and it really paid off. We couldn’t be prouder of how we represented our club both on and off the court.”

The tournament was an exciting kickoff to the season, setting a strong foundation for both teams as they continue to develop their skills and strengthen their team dynamics.
