18U High Performance Team Battles Through the Furlani Cup

On February 15th, 2025, SNVC’s 18U High Performance team traveled to Toronto Metropolitan University to compete in the Furlani Cup, facing tough competition in a weekend filled with challenges and growth. Before hitting the court, the team had the opportunity to watch a TMU game, giving them valuable insight into the level of play at the post-secondary level.

Once tournament play began, the team demonstrated their determination and grit. They played with intensity, forcing their opponents to earn every point, with standout moments across the court—from Jordan Glover’s diving saves in the back row to Maeve Crane’s precise passing on serve receive. Their relentless energy and focus led to several hard-fought matches, and their improvement from their last tournament to this one was evident. Reflecting on the weekend, team captain Jordan Glover shared, “I think that as a team we battled really hard in every game and every point. We left it all on the court, and by the last game, we were exhausted. Coaches and teammates never stopped believing in us, and we fought through some close matches.”

Guided by Coaches John Curtis and Emma Korolenko, the team continues to develop their skills, confidence, and competitive mindset. Their leadership and support have played a key role in helping the athletes refine their game and push themselves in every match. Team captain Sofia Johnston added, “This weekend was such a great experience. Watching the university game and getting the chance to bond as a team made the trip even more special. Looking back at videos, it’s amazing to see how much we’ve improved over the last couple of months, and I can’t wait to see how far we can go.”

With each tournament, the team continues to push themselves, grow, and compete at a higher level. The fight, resilience, and team spirit they displayed at the Furlani Cup will serve as motivation as they prepare for the rest of the season. Carrying forward the lessons learned and the confidence gained, they are proving their ability to compete at an increasingly high level, with dedication and improvement remaining at the core of their success.
