14U Aurora Earn Silver at Ontario Championships

The Superior North Volleyball Club 14U Aurora team delivered a standout performance at the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) Ontario Championships, held April 16–18 at the Enercare Centre in Toronto. Competing up an age group in the 15U division, Aurora advanced to the gold medal match and finished the weekend with a silver medal in Division 6 Tier 2 competition.

The team is coached by Cayleigh Fossum, Lola Milohnic, and Sylvie Lemoine. Alysha Goundrey and Lauryn Langley also supported Cayleigh Fossum in coaching the team at the championship, helping guide the group throughout the weekend.

“Our team’s experience at Ontario Championships was memorable and a true testament to the hard work these athletes have put in this season,” said Fossum. “Throughout the weekend, we saw athletes grow in both skill and confidence, showing both mental and physical resilience in many three-set matches. Their volleyball IQ continued to develop, allowing us to challenge them more tactically, which played a huge role in our success.

“The support these athletes have for one another is unmatched, and their passion for the game is truly inspiring. Their determination and ‘never give up’ mindset carried them far throughout this tournament, and I am so proud of all they have accomplished.”

For many players, the event marked their first experience at a tournament of this scale.

“If you told me on the first day that we would end up playing for gold, I honestly wouldn’t have believed you,” said outside hitter Avery Kydd. “We didn’t know what to expect—we were excited but also nervous. But every single player showed up and made a difference. We finally clicked, and it really showed.

“A highlight for me was how we fought back from large point gaps—not once, but three times—never giving up and staying composed in big moments.”

“I really enjoyed my first experience at the OVA Championships,” said middle blocker Amelia Guerriero. “We made so many great memories together, especially spending time in downtown Toronto before competing. It helped us bond and build stronger connections.

“On the court, we supported each other through both the highs and the lows. It was inspiring to see how much we grew over the weekend.”

“It was unbelievable to see so many teams from across Ontario come together to compete on 60 courts at the Enercare Centre,” said middle blocker Aby Nelson. “The atmosphere was electric, and it was rewarding to see our team’s dedication throughout the season come together.”

“It was such a great experience for our team,” said setter Lee Roberts. “Participating in such a big tournament at a huge venue was really exciting. We had to stay focused with so many games going on around us, and it was amazing being surrounded by so many people who love the sport. Our coaches were so supportive and definitely set us up for success. We learned a lot and had so much fun competing together.”
